summer in the city

It's nice to be in a country where their is a proper summer - I mean apart from the devastating lack of water that these dry hot conditions can cause day in day out, it's nice to be able to go to the beach and have a swim almost on a whim. Asia is working in a French patisserie in Port Melbourne about 5 mins walk from the Port Melbourne beach. Despite how it might sound, a port and all, it's actually a very nice beach. During the crazy hot weather we have been having recently we have been heading down to the beach after work and taking a quick dip before heading home. The nice thing about Port Phillip Bay, and Melbourne in general really is that it is on the south coast so the water is always 'fresh' even in the middle of summer and fantastic to cool off in on a really hot day.

Tramping in the Lerderderg

Asia, Nick, Georgia and I went off on a tramp in the Lerderderg gorge this weekend. This is a beautiful native bush river gorge about an hour out of Melbourne city. Both of us are still nursing sore muscles today, in particular calves and shoulders. Nonetheless we had an awesome time and it was great to really get out in the Aussie bush for the first time. The highlight for me - seeing so many cockatoos in their native environment. Can't wait to get back out there again sometime soon. Hopefully there will be some more water in the river, which was pretty much completely dry aside from a few stagnant pools. Okay here are the pics you are all craving for...

A belated new year's wish

Okay a fair bit to say, but not much motivation to say it so here are some photos of the new year's BBQ we went too. Yes, that is me with the mullet...

Off tramping in the Aussie bush tomorrow, so should have some interesting stories and photos to show from that.
