Writing this blog is fun, although it's funny because I was thinking just before that I haven't posted in a while, mainly because we haven't been up to much lately. Then I got to thinking that the blog puts pressure on us to do stuff, to live even, so that I have something to write in the blog - the blog is running our life, help!
No seriously, I'm nursing a wee bit of a hangover today after 1 or 2 beers at the belgium beer cafe turned into 3 or 4 which turned into 6 or 7. I went down there to catch up with an old buddy from my uni days, Jethro. Turns out he is living in Melbourne now too, which is pretty cool. We had him and his partner Millie round for dinner a couple of weeks back and all in all it's been good to catch up.
We are planning to head out to half moon bay today, which is a nice beach about 20 km south of the Melbourne CBD. It's something we've been meaning to do all summer but have kept postponing - which is still a possibility today. Right now it is 34 degrees going on 38 and if it wasn't for the fan blowing nice cool air over me I'm sure I would be seriously struggling with the heat. I need a nice cool swim urgently.
Oh yeah, how about those cricketers - all is not lost!!!

Double bugger
It really is extremely hard to be a NZ cricket fan. Up one day (per year), and down the rest. The annoying thing about the black caps is that they often give you hope that they are much better than they actually are. Two losses in three days was enough to guarantee us a plane trip home. The funny thing is I actually felt like we were starting to play some pretty good cricket, we seemed to be so much better than the english, despite losing to them twice and if a couple more things had gone our way we could have easily beaten Australia three times. Oh well, there's still the world cup...
Here are some pics from the game last Friday. What a stadium!

Who's fired up for the cricket
Melbourne 38 degrees, the MCG, three rows back from the front, right behind the bowlers arm, Shane Bond charging in to bowl them at 150 - the aussies running scared after a pasting by England last night. I tell you, who couldn't be fired up about the cricket tomorrow. That's right, I'll be there doning my beige and black face paint (well maybe not the face paint) a lone Kiwi among 50,000 aussies. This is turning out to be a crucial encounter, a win a we can pretty much guarantee a place in the finals, a loss and we head to a winner takes all match against England on Tuesday. I'll let you know about the famed MCG atmosphere in a few days time.
Actually, it won't be my first time at the MCG. Asia and I went down to watch a 20/20 dosmetic game between the bushrangers and bulls early in the year, meeting up with Asia's cousin Jenna who is over from the UK (the same one we stayed with when we were over there - http://windcrusader.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html). The MCG, despite all the overblown hype, really is a truly amazing sports stadium. It's like being in another world when you are inside there, it is so huge. I can't wait to see it at least half full tomorrow!
Okay well, we are off for a swim at laughing waters now - Melbourne, summer, enough said.
